Psychosocial Adjustment Among Senior Volleyball Players in

Libya

ABSTRACT

The research aimed to identify the level of psychosocial compatibility among senior

volleyball players in Libya, and the research community consisted of (120) senior

volleyball players distributed among (10) clubs, where the research was conducted

by a comprehensive inventory method and the researcher used the Cooper-Smith

scale (1978) and the Watkins scale (1978) to measure psychological compatibility,

The reliability and Reliability of the study tool was verified using statistical

methods represented by arithmetic means, standard deviations, percentages and

inferential statistics to test the Reliability of the study tool (Pearson correlation

coefficient, Cronbach's alpha) and in light of the research results a set of

recommendations, including working on Training in the psychological field by

collecting scientific information in psychology and social psychology and the

necessity of having a psychologist in the teams in order to help them deal with

various situations in their sports life and help players overcome the difficulties that

may meet them that are consistent with their inclinations and desires.

INTRODUCTION AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RESEARCH

Sports psychology is one of the important topics with a direct impact on the development and

improvement of the level of performance of athletes, and it is an important axis of scientific

studies in the field of physical education, which is a real indicator of the progress of society and

the correctness of its intellectual and humanitarian approach, and this progress is only a natural

reflection of the diligent search for modern technical methods and means used in studies and

research, as this research has enriched human knowledge with factors of progress and

superiority, and this appeared through miraculous achievements, especially in the sports field,

and in order to develop these games should employ appropriate modern methods and methods.

Research Problem

Most coaches focus their attention on the physical, skill and plan aspects without paying

attention to the psychosocial aspects of the players in terms of forming relationships,

interactions and social participation, whether inside or outside the stadiums, as well as serious

cooperation, love and raising morale among the players themselves, and there are some sports

teams suffer from clusters, conflicts and social and psychological issues within the team and

then reach low levels.

Research Objective

To identify the level of psychosocial adjustment among senior volleyball players in Libya.

Research Question

What is the level of psychosocial adjustment among senior volleyball players in Libya?

Research Terms

• Compatibility: It is a continuous dynamic process in which a person aims to change his

behavior to bring about the most compatible between him and his environment, and the

ability to build satisfactory relationships between the individual and his environment.

(Fahmy, 1979)

• Psychological compatibility: Adaptive changes that occur in the individual's behavior as

a response in new situations, and by this we mean in particular the subjective

manifestations of compatibility for the individual's characteristic such as the degree of

satisfaction, self-confidence, sense of security and satisfaction of needs. (Kazim, 1990)

• Psychosocial compatibility: It is the individual's ability to reconcile his desires and

requirements with the environment in which he lives and his ability to build social

relationships and adhere to the customs, traditions and laws imposed by society.

"Participation in sports recreational activities and its relationship with life

satisfaction and psychological compatibility for the elderly".

This study aimed to identify the relationship between participation in sports recreational

activities and both life satisfaction and psychological adjustment for the elderly (50-60) years,

as well as to identify the differences between life satisfaction and psychological adjustment for

the elderly (50-60) years. The study used the descriptive method using the survey method on

a sample of 438 elderly men and women, 261 practicing recreational activities and 177 not

practicing recreational activities in Cairo and Giza governorates, and using the following

research tools - personal interviews, the data collection form, the psychological compatibility

scale of Mohammed Abdel-Maksoud, and the life satisfaction scale - Teogarten, where the

study resulted in the most important results as follows: - Participants in recreational activities

for the elderly in Cairo and Giza enjoy psychological compatibility and life satisfaction, the

existence of a direct correlation between participation in sports recreational activities and

psychological compatibility and life satisfaction for the elderly, non-participants in recreational

activities for the elderly are characterized by psychological incompatibility and life satisfaction.

This was interested in studying psychological compatibility and its relationship with the level

of ambition in a sample of 432 male and female students of both Genders in educational

institutions in the state of Rabat and ranged between the ages of 14 to 21 years. The researcher

aimed through his study to reveal the relationship that may be the age of the manifestations of

personal compatibility and the level of ambition in adolescents in Morocco, and showed a

positive relationship between all dimensions of home, health, social, emotional and ambition

level, and also found that there are statistically significant differences between the level of high

ambition and low ambition with regard to the level of general compatibility in the two groups

(males and females), but there was a difference in compatibility between the Genders due to

the views of men and women. (Abouelnil, 1984)

RESEARCH PROCEDURES

Research Methodology

The researcher used the descriptive method by following the survey method with its scientific

steps and procedures to suit the nature of this study.

Research Community

The research community consisted of volleyball players in the senior category in Libya, which

amounted to (120) players distributed among (10) clubs.

Research Sample

The sample of the study was selected by a comprehensive sampling method, where the total

number of the sample amounted to (120) players. The study sample was characterized in terms

of volleyball sub-federations, as shown in Table (1), distributed in the first and second regions

as follows:

• Benghazi Sub-Federation (Region I)

• Tripoli Sub-Federation (Region II)

Table (1) shows the characterization of the research sample in terms of sub- federations.
