Language: Literature Review

ABSTRACT

This paper as a literature review, its primary goal is to examine the effect of the

employment of E-Learning tools technology in teaching and learning English

language. The English language play an important and crucial role in education

environment. As a result, it is an essential for students to acquire a good

understanding in education environment. Using traditional style in delivering

information to learners might not assist and expand their English skills. Integration

new technology in teaching and learning English language is a good technique that

can help learners to acquire information quickly. Hence, this research the impact of

the adoption of e-learning tools in teaching and learning English language. Also, this

paper will provide some recommendations and suggestions for the future work.

INTRODUCTION

Teachers of the English language in colleges and schools are currently looking for innovative,

effective teaching strategies to help them enhance their students' learning. The strategies and

methods used by teachers may have a significant impact on the students' level of knowledge.

The fact that certain students find it difficult to acquire the English language leads instructors

to look for innovative teaching strategies, approaches, methods, and training programs that will

help them fulfill the demands of the students who are learning English language.

However, despite the advantages of incorporating technology into English language teaching a

nd learning, Algahtani (2019) claims that educators rarely rely on it when instructing student

s. These advantages include time savings, simplicity of information acquisition and interaction

among teachers and students, all of which enhance the caliber of the learning process.

Additionally, it gives students a chance to observe how English is actually used in daily life

(Alahrbi and Lally,2017). English teachers should focus on developing their teaching methods

and styles as this inspire and motivate students to participate in the instructional activities.

Implementing E-Learning tools into teaching strategies can help students in many ways such

as allow them to study quickly and raise their achievements. As a result, the current review of

the literature will concentrate on prior studies that looked at the impact of utilizing e-leaning

tools in teaching and learning English language.

THE AIM

This paper is aimed to review the research that conducted related to adopt new technology in

teaching and learning English language in order to provide a comprehensive understanding of

the benefits of integration lates technology in teaching and learning process especially for

English language.

LITERATURE REVIEW

As the adoption of technology in teaching and learning process have become an essential part

of education in general and in teaching and learning English skills specifically, this section

presents and review the study that examine the integration and employment of technology in

teaching and learning English language.

Lin and Yang in 2011 conducted research in Taiwan. The sample consisted of 32 leaners in

English language department. The goal of the research was to investigate the wiki platform

technology by students’ perceptions in terms of improving their writing skills. The authors used

interview, observations and survey in order to collect the data. The study revealed that despite

the obstructions of functional and physiological that leaners encounter when they used the new

technology, they were enjoyable to learn by using wiki technic rather than traditional methods

which improve their writing skills and getting feedback immediately from their educators or

peers. Tao 2022 indicated that teaching English language for students based on internet of

things could assist to improve leaners skills and help them in terms of control their progress.

This means that incorporate technology in teaching and learning practices will help to improve

students’ performance. Another author such as Cutter 2015 mentioned that leaners were prefer

to adopt new technology in their learning practice instead of using textbooks. As a result, it is

essential to integrate e-learning tools by teachers in educational process when they teach their

students.

Kazu and Issaku carried out research in 2021 in one university in Turkey. The study aimed to

investigate the leaners views of the implementation of technology in teaching English language.

The authors used a questionnaire for collecting the data with 303 students from ELT college.

The results of the paper revealed that participants opinion of the integration of technology in

their lessons were positive. Also, participants mentioned that they can manage their learning

without their educators. Another result from the study is that learners indicted that they have

motivation to learn when their teachers teach by using technology. Participants also reported

that they can learn the concepts and ideas of English language. The authors mentioned some

challenges that affect the implementation of technology-based classroom.

The first challenges were that insufficient equipment of technology in the classrooms.

Secondly, educators suffering from inadequate training about the integration of technology in

teaching English language. The authors also mentioned that learners have lack of information

of the use of technology in learning English language. The study suggested some

recommendations such as that the educators should teach their learners how to use new

modern of technology when they learn English language. Also, the study indicated that

educators need support department that can help them with any technical issues.

Distraction and false information may be the most detrimental elements of using technology.

In other words, it might be challenging for teachers to get all of their pupils to pay attention to

the material when they use Twitter as a learning tool. Additionally, incorrect information could

be taught to kids from websites, affecting their prior knowledge and information. Additionally,

since face-to-face interaction between teachers and students is not possible with online

learning, it is possible for pupils to become demotivated and disheartened. Last but not least,

privacy concerns have been identified as a challenge for technology users in the educational

setting (Cruzd, Staves, and Wilk, 2012).

THE ADVANTAGES OF THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING AND LEARNING

The usage of technology in the educational setting has a lot of benefits, according to the

literature studies. As an illustration, technology offer students a fun atmosphere where they

can connect with educators or their peers. Moreover, technology enables teachers to publish

assignments and questions students at any time. Additionally, students do not need to be in a

specific location to turn in their assignments, they can do it at anytime during the day. The

results of the literature review carried out by Alharbi et al. (2019) on the advantages of

integration new technology in Saudi context suggested that the employment of technology,

including google classroom tools, can assist to enhance the calibre of teaching and learning.

According to Alsolamy (2017) the use of new technology in teachning and learning can help

students think more in terms of critically and reflectively. The author also noted that how

technology can help in terms of sharing information quickly among students.

METHODOLOGY

The search method used for this research to locate the sources and pertinent publications was

carried out in a number of different ways. First, the researchers searched relevant websites and

databases using key phrases like techn logy, Elearning tools, social media, and the

Englishlanguage. These databases and websites included university libraries, Google Scholar,

conferenc procedures, etc. Each paper's referenclist was also examined to look for any further

reports orresearch that might be pertinent. Finally, the approach reached a saturation point

where no fresh publications could be found.

CONCLUSION, RECOMMENDATIONS AND LIMITATIONS

This study aimed to review the research that adopted technology for teaching and learning

English language. Also, this study tried to review the papers that presented the benefits of the

use of technology in teaching and learning English language. This paper presented that the

integration of technology in teaching English language can provide many benefits for learning

environment. Educators should pay attention to their technical skills in order to employ e- learning tools effectively in their daily classroom.

As this paper provide the comprehensive understanding of the use of technology education

process, however; there are some limitations such as there are not many studies included in

this paper that conducted in different nations. As a result; new paper can be carried out

including many types of research from different countries, which might help to find out more

understanding of the use of technology in teaching and learning English language.
